  • Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez (15 August 1917 – 24 March 1980) was a prelate of the Catholic Church in El Salvador, who served as the fourth Archbishop of San Salvador. He spoke out against poverty, social injustice, assassinations and torture. In 1980, Romero was assassinated while offering Mass in the chapel of the Hospital of Divine Providence.   • 18 Dec 2002, Missouri, USA --- After training, the last test of the gas mask is conducted before exposure to live Sarin & VX nerve agents. To test the masks, Navy, Army and Marine troops are placed under a plastic housing. Then, they are exposed to banana oil and/or other caustic agents. Supported financially by its membership and outside contributions, Fight Back provided job counseling and placement for victims of racial discrimination, particularly in the building trades, but was also active in the rank and file movements of the longshore, utility, transit, garment, and other industries. Its tactics included negotiation, lobbying, and coalition building, as well as lawsuits, boycotts, and demonstrations. Fight Back played an important role in creating equal employment opportunity programs, increasing minority hiring at construction sites, and forcing unions to open their membership rolls, although it also experienced numerous setbacks throughout the years.

  • Michael Farrell (born 1944) is an Irish civil rights activist, writer and former leader of People's Democracy, from its inception through to the 1969 Burntollet Bridge incident and into the 1970s.<br />
Farrell was educated at Queen's University, Belfast and the University of Strathclyde. He was a Labour Trotskyist, becoming involved in the Northern Ireland civil rights movement in Northern Irelandin the late 1960s, and was a founding member of the university-based People’s Democracy.
